Hair Accessories for a Prom

Monday, November 12th, 2007

hair-up.jpg When you have a prom to go to there will be many and varied things to organise before you can feel ready to shine! You will need to find the perfect dress which can be a long process and then the shoes and finally the hair style and hair accessories. All of this can be really confusing so at least I can help with the hair styles and hair pins, grips, combs, clips or for a really unusual tiara.

Think about your hair as a continuation of the outfit theme, this means co-ordinate the look you want to achieve for example;

If your dress/ oufit is a formal long dress you can be elaborate with the accessories,

If you are wearing a cocktail length dress use smaller hair accessories but lot’s of them,

Some people think that when you have shorter hair you cannot change the shape but with the correct styling products you can make the hair look like it is swept up and a well placed headband or comb will add the accent and make you feel more feminine.

Longer hair looks fabulous when put up either in a topknot or a loose bun secured to the side and gives a really up to the minute feel,

If you wear long hair down it can look very sophisticated make sure it has a few conditioning treatments in the weeks leading up to the important date for maximum impact and shine.

Besides, a prom hairstyle should be wisely combined with your dress, shoes, accessories, hair, makeup, and a perfume. We all have our individual styles and you shouldn’t change yours for the prom as you will feel uncomfortable. So choose a prom hairstyle which will make you feel comfortable and confident. There is a wide variety of prom hairstyles to choose from: elegant hairstyles, dramatic prom hairstyles, vintage hairstyles or youthful hairstyles.

Short Hair Accessories

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Short hair can be stunning when accesorised with the right piece.

There are many different hairstyles for short hair. If you thought that your only option was to wear your close cropped hair the same way you wear it everyday, you’re wrong! Just by using things like mouse, sculpting gel, hair accessories, and many other things, there are a multitude of different hairstyles you can achieve. Short hair should not hold you back from finding the perfect style for parties.

Thin headbands are ideal and could have a small flower to one side, for a subtle look, or a plume of feathers with crystal sprays for the more adventurous!

Small combs are also appropriate as long as the hair is thick enough to attach it to. You could use one to continue a colour theme.

Small Clips can be fabulous as the bases can be hidden leaving the beautiful part showing. Think floating butterflies or a feather that looks like it is gracefully laying on the hair.

Hair grips will give maximum impact with little visable anchoring and can be as bold or subtle as you wish.

When the hair is shorter it need not be boring. Think Kiera Knightly, Sharon Stone - she always looks sexy and often wears her hair short, another icon is Audrey Hepburn - with a good cut and proper styling products the “urchin” look is beautiful.

Please have a look at some of my links for further inspiration on hairstyles. Then specify short styles.

Who doesn’t want to feel like the best dressed person on their wedding day? Most people want to feel like a princess - if for only one day! The ranges of hair wear / bridal hair accessories is immense so it can be a bit difficult to choose the perfect ones for your day. With a little help you can narrow down the field by asking yourself a few questions,

1. Have you got long or short hair? Both look fabulous with different types of bridal hair accessory, short- go for grips, clips or a thin banded tiara to create a special look without the fixings showing,

Long- you can use all types but make sure that they can be fastened securely and seen, you do not want it to flap about or not be noticed.

2. What colour dress/outfit are you wearing? Warm colours need to have gold or diamante, e.g Cream, oyster and champagne colours will look best with gold fixings whereas cool colours usually look better with silver fixings, e.g blues, whites etc.

3. Do you want something simple or extravagant? A well chosen clip can look just as good as a head full of sparkles.

Be creative- it can be hard to see something you want exactly but not impossible. You could try to use a bespoke service which should create samples and you may like to use some old jewellery such as a broken necklace of favorite beads or pearls re-created just for you.

Accessories make a hairstyle look spectacular, unusual beaded combs or sprays of crystals will be fun and can always be used after your special day.

Flowers are a lovely way to compliment the theme if you choose large blooms then just 1 or 2 will be ample, if they are small then you can have them scattered throughout the hair style.

Finally for more help with the choice look for the new ideas in wedding magazines or websites and use the front of one style and maybe the back from another!

There are many occasions that call for formal hairstyles and accessories, and if you’ve never had to choose one before, you probably have no idea where to start. Why would you need one? What kind should you choose? Will a particular one work with your hair or not? Here are some great tips on choosing from formal hair styles that you will love.

  • A wedding, whether it’s yours or you are the bridesmaid or maid of honor. Some guests will also choose to wear formal hairstyles. It really depends on the type of wedding. If someone is having a fun and loose Hawaiian style wedding, you probably won’t need a formal hairstyle. However, for a traditional church wedding or a more formal style wedding, a formal hairstyle is a great idea.
  • Most girls wear formal hairstyles to the prom. Don’t worry if you don’t want to wear your hair up. There are many formal hairstyles that allow you to leave most or all of your hair hanging loose.
  • A fancy dinner party is a good time for women to wear formal hairstyles. There are many different types that you can choose from for this type of event, and you will probably want to factor in what you will be wearing.
  • An upscale party or celebration might be one of the occasions where women would wear formal hairstyles. A fundraiser event or charity auction is an example of this type of occasion. You will want to factor in what you are wearing to this event as well.

                                                             Essential Preparation.

1.    If you are going to a salon make sure your stylist knows and is not too booked to spend quality time on your hair.(Plan early)

2. Wear a button up shirt when getting your hairstyle done so it doesnt have to be taken off over your beautiful up do.

3. Keep an emergency kit of hairstyling items you might need including accessories, pins, hairsprays and everything you can think of to save embarrassing stands flapping about after a frantic dance session.
